Yes sir the drums come off the hub. Bring it to a machine shop or a brake shop, they need to use the hydraulic press to get them off. If you try beating the hell out of it with a hammer you're just going to destroy the lug bolts.
I never had my new ones pressed back in though, when I snugged the lug nuts down it pulled the drum on and seated it perfectly against the hub.

Doesn't matter if the lug studs are destroyed or not because they should not be reused!
The studs have serrations on them, these serrations are what hold the drum to the hub. The studs are pressed into the hub, then the drum is pressed onto the studs.
When studs are removed, the serrations flatten out...so if used over again, the hub/drum will be a loose fit.
Studs should be pressed out, pressed on. Beating on studs with a hammer could cause the holes in the drums to become elongated.
After 1963, Ford only sold the hub & drum as an assembly, replacement drums can be purchased from autoparts stores.

Mine still hold nice and tight however your point is well taken; but that begs the question "does it really matter" because at the very very very worst, that would mean they fit exactly like rear drums brakes up to the present day. I always wished that they had made front drum brakess as easy to service as the rears.
