i have a closed nuckle D44 with 3 broken studs. PO had some weird sized lugs nuts on there and i had a helluva time gettin em off. question i have is: do i have to take the hub apart and all the inners to get the front drum off? like the rear drums on a D60 you have to pull the axle? or will it come off like an old drum brake car, just slip off over the studs and you can get right to em?
thanks in advance.
if it had normal lug nuts id have already taken it apart, and figured it out. i have to use a very thin walled socket to get em off, and i wanna be sure before i tear it apart this time of year.
The drum is separate from the hub so complete hub tear down isn't necessary to remove the drum.
Some hub/drum assemblies have three large countersunk screws that attach the drum to the hub, these screws are usually frozen making drum removal a pita...
In that case i usually just remove the hub/drum as an assembly and take the opportunity to inspect and service the wheel bearings and lockouts.
