Hi ...I am now on my 3rd 7.3 and seem's every year has changes ..I am retiering my 96 E350 and looking to buy a 2000 450 with the PS 7.3 ..what if any changes should i be looking at before I start pushing the limits ?? I have a BD exhaust brake ..that I have been told I don't need because of how the turbo is set up ??I don't understand so I am asking..and the 4 inch exhaust ..is my first plan .and then a tuner ...can I swap my trans out of my 96 to the 2000?? or are the controls diffrent ...this will be my last work truck (I hope) so I want it to be fun on the highway ..nothing like outpulling some Chevy nut in the merge lane !!!
You cannot put a 1996 trans in a 2000 truck. It will not work.
The turbo setup is very similar between the two trucks. Whoever told you they were different were probably thinking of the 6.0L engine. That turbo is VERY different.
crap .. just spent 3800 bucks on rebuilding it ..was hoping to swap them if I blew up the new truck ..is it the electronics..or connector hook up's ? I ask to learn ...
The 4R100 has two speed sensors, the E4OD has none. The trans controller in the 2000 truck needs those signals to be able to control the trans. Without them it will be in limp mode all the time.
that is why I ask ..thank you ..well next bit.....what should I look for in the trans to make it last ?? I like a bigger cooler and should I install a inline filter or trust what ford put in ??
A cooler from a 6.0L F-Series would help a lot. I'm not a big fan of inline filters, if they add restriction it can cause the bypass to open. If that happens you lose most of your trans cooling.
