Trying to figuree out no turn signal issue, onething I think is new, hazzards on, apply brakes, stop flashing and turnsignals go solid on cluster, disconnect switch and bypass switch, same thing happens, I am noticing l/r brake light is inop, pulled bulb, dual filaments are good, bulb connector slightly recessed, just got back from wrecking yard not able to find rear lamps, my lamps has a square four prong connector, all trucks and van in yard were 1975 and older, not sure if this is the problem,
drinking a beer now and taking a break!!!
replace the flasher for the hazards and shut off your hazards ..or ..just shut off the hazards ....usually a bad flasher w/ the switch turned on has the symptoms/problems you are describing..hope the beer was cold..
on my second beer now, YES cold!!
hazzard relay is clicking in corrolation with turn signals on dash, , so that tells my the hazzard relay-flasher is working so I take it if applying brake pedal with hazzards on should still continue to flash?
yes
currently turnsignals not working and trying to also figure out, did pick up a turn signal switch from the yard today, have not installed, next weekends project
install the hazard flasher in the turn signal flasher location, shut off the hazard switch, install it when you get another, bulb out is usually a wire or connection problem...check for power at the bulb socket, if 12v then check ground..if the bulb is not working and a bulb is bad as in a broken filament sometimes the left or right ( affected light) signal indicator in the dash comes on when you step on the brake...good luck..
On the hazards, with the hazards on you apply the brakes the hazards stop flashing and just stay on, correct? This is normal. When you apply the brakes the flashers stop flashing and stay on. This is how they are designed. If they continued to flash when the brakes were applied, if you're going down the road, someone behind you wouldn't know you were braking untill too late.
This indcates the wiring is okay. If you're having problems with the turn signals, first replace any burned out bulbs, then flasher. If still no-go, replace turn signal switch.
update
new turn signal switch installed, still no operation. replaced turn signal flasher, still inop. hazzards work fine, all lights illuminate, hazzards off, brake lights work, running lights work. fuse on fuse block for turn signals is good.
also strange situation, truck was running with headlights on, headlights and running lights would flicker on and off, turned off engine, lights would still flicker on and off and headlamp relay would click on and off.
guess the truck is possesed!!
looking for ideas suggestions, not able to find any shorted-melted wires
Thanks
I agree with VocaTexas. The headlights in these trucks don't use relays. The headlight switch has a built in automatic reset breaker. When the breaker trips and resets, you'll hear a click.
Check the headlight wiring for a short.
