Bad Computer?
My son's 2007 F-150 with the 5.4 V8 has been in the shop for service but the mechanic has been unable to turn off the check engine light. He though that when the truck was in an accident two years ago that the computer might have been damaged. Does anyone have any thoughts? The truck does not throw any codes and runs well.
I see various offers for an exchange pcm and wonder if there would be a need to have it reflashed for his particular truck?

I have no experiance with 07' and later but .... Have you or the mech tried disconnecting the battery for ten to fifteen minutes to see if that works to reset? If that does not work and you had no codes I wonder if the scanner or software is up to date for a 2007 FORD. My 12 year old AutoXray OBDII reader works on an 09' honda but does not work on my 06' F-150. Good Luck!

When replacing the PCM on these trucks you need to be able to retrieve the flash from from your old PCM and upload the program to the replacement PCM. It's pretty much standard procedure for OBD II PCM's these days regardless of make. Most independent shops have that capability if they do diagnostics. If unable to retrieve the program from the old PCM then a trip to the dealer for the install will be in order. They'll have to flash the PCM with tech support from Ford for your VIN.
