I think it depends on what year the 460 is, if you could get the numbers off the heads or the block. 460's built before emissions really have some power in stock form. look for C8VE or C9VE or D0VE
just found out Its newer than needed. smog and all that. Dont really want to mess with it. Sticking with the 360 and going to rebuild for cheap. thanks for the imput though
I made a 390 out of my 360 when I rebuilt it. I used an Edelbrock #2105 Performer manifold. I used this manifold so I could also use the exhaust crossover. If you're going to run headers then the Edelbrock 7105 is the same manifold without the exhaust crossover.
I'm also using (initially) a Holley 780 cfm carb. but thats borderline for a 390. It might be too big (it's new and the price was right, free). You'd be better off (esecially w/ a 360) with something in the 600-650cfm range.
So If can i just order the 390 crank, pistons and all that or is there more to turnin a 360 into a 390? Let me know
if its that easy. I really dont need anything but the crank. the pistons are good to go. the only difference is the stroke right? besides the cam, lifters and gasket kit.
they are pretty proud of those cranks and that intake you told me about. WOW. time to start saving quick.
I went with a plain crank kit from the local parts house. A turned crank, undersized main and rod bearings ran around $225.00. I see Rockauto has a crank kit for the 390 for $238.79 ($188.79 + $50.00 core) It's Standard Crankshaft P/N 15510 and I see rebuilt connecting rods on E-bay for around $35.00 each.
