Autolite 2100 manual choke to electric choke... possible?
Hey guys, I've got a '68 Autolite 2100 carburetor on a FE 390 sitting in a 2WD 73 F-250 that I use for my daily driver. Pictures and stuff on this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...arburetor.html
I've got a question that I can't seem to find a direct answer to on these forums. Can a manual choke carburetor be converted to have an electric choke? I've seen lots of info about electric conversion kits, but the confusion for me is they all seem to be just stove choke to electric choke.
I've been operating it the last 6 months with the choke wide open and its been fine... I'm just wondering if things will go a little better for the upcoming cooler climate. Northern CA, where I'm at rarely drops below 40 degrees, so not terrible.
I don't think I would mind a manual choke except that its not factory on a 73, so theres no where really great to put the choke cable in the cab.
Maybe just time for a new carb?

If you go to the help section in the auto parts store, you can pick up a generic choke cable. I ran mine through an access hole in the firewall and mounted it on the left side of the steering column on the bottom of the dash. There is a knockout plate there with 2 holes that the bracket for the cable lined up perfectly with, didnt even have to drill any holes. If you dont want to do this, I think you can convert to an elec. choke but someone will come along with some info on that. You might go to a JY and find one with elec choke already and swap out.

Having an old junk carb to get the parts off of might work. But if the carb is needing some other work done to it i would just use it as a trade in core and get rebuilt one with a automatic choke. You might have to pay a little more by not having the right core trade in ,or get a new one that won't need a core trade in.

The later-model 2100's that had an automatic choke have a cast choke housing that bolts to the passenger side of the carburetor. The carburetor then has threaded mounting bosses that accept the housing. The early-model carburetor in your pictures does not appear to have these provisions.
You won't be able to do what you want to do without some fab work. Your best bet would be to do one of the two things suggested above: run a choke cable into the cab, or get a carburetor that's cast for an auto choke.
