Hi Guy's I having trouble with my 94 F-350 7.3 non-turbo with 410 gears and E40D trans that was rebuilt from Jaspers 1 year ago. I bought this truck 8 weeks ago to haul a 12K 5th wheel back and forth to Fla.The price was right for it with 170K miles but right after I got the truck is started to flash the OD light and go into default mode. I would pull over shut it down restart and run fine for a day or week then start over again. Talking with Jaspers they had me change out in this order, 1st speed sensor, 2nd shift sensor, 3rd throttle position sensor. And after every job it would go right back to flashing. They (Jaspers) had me take it to a shop and replaced solenoid pack, again the same thing. two days latter the replace the trans with a new unit. Now all of this was free to me and I can't say enough about Jaspers warranty policy and customer service it has be top shelf. I picked up my truck on Friday drove home fine even had them fix hard throttle peddle and it drive like a new truck. Sat morning I go to pick up 5th wheel and right out of the driveway it goes right back to flashing OD. Now I tried shut it down and restart but after 2nd gear right back to default mode. I then switch the fuel tanks from front to rear and then back to front again and the flashing OD light went out and stayed out the rest of the day, haven't run the truck yet but thinking that all this something in the wiring or fuel tanks transfer and was hoping that someone has any thoughts on what to do next. Thanks for reading I know it's long.
well, improper diagnoses got you an even fresher trans.can't beat that.
do you have an OB1 code scanner? this is your first step.to get the code.
if you don't have one, they are sold for around 20-30$ at most auto stores.
do you have any blown fuses? how does the tach and speedo read? smooth and accurate,or jumpy?
other than the o/d light flashing, prior to this (not during) how does the trans seem to upshift and downshift?
No I only have a OBD2 no fuse blown and tach and speedo are smooth, the trans even before when it not in default it shift great a little quicker when M/T but smooth and with trailer (gross 18500) higher rpm but still right there. Down shift I don't seem to feel it like in a Allison if at 65 and get off the throttle tach just drops down to 650. And what do you think about that fuel switch?
fuel switch is unrelated.it was a coincidence to have the flashing od light after switching tanks.nothing notifies the trans ecm about which tank you have selected, because there would be no reason for doing so.
I know but this is not the 1st time it that dam trans went back to running like it should. I know there not too much that PCM dose but everything works cruise is smooth and holds well even with trailer behind me. Shop has been telling me that it shows no codes. Will get OBD1 and see for myself. Two new trans and it still doing it was thinking it could in the harness? Thanks for your time.
Joe
I'm by no means an expert on this, but i think i read somewhere,
that the "brake lights" have an effect on these tranny's.
Maybe a short in the brake light system or something along that line,
just thinking out loud here.
