so here is another issue. its a edo4 in a f250 7.3 4 wheel drive. truck is shifting hard, and sputters, (mite say it is sliping but never felt a trans slip before) or losses power when putting around. the overdrive light is flashing 13 times (anyone know what code that is?). when in overdrive it runs well ok. aslong as i have alot of throttle runs great. keeping the rpms up it shifts well and doesnt sputter. when the motor is in the 1500 to 2000 rpm it sputters and shifts hard. dont know wear to start or what to check to get more of a idea whats wrong. give me some direction please.
Best advice I can give is dont drive the truck with a flashing OD light, it could cost you a tranny. It sounds to me like you might have a combination of a few problems. Im sure someone else on here will be able to advise you further.
The OD light doesn't tell you what the code is, it just flashes to tell you something is wrong, and the trans is in limp mode. You need to read the codes to know where to start...
How are the tach & speedo working? (The computer needs good input from the tach sender & VSS, as well as the MLPS and the TPS (aka FIPL) to control the trans correctly...)
everything else is running well. drove the truck for almost a year with no problems..... no code reader. am i wrong thought the flashing means something by how many times it flashes.

your wrong.
Phy just provided you with the answer to that question.

May want to call some of your local auto parts stores. Around here they offer free code scanning but they may be limited to just engine codes. Several local transmission shops also offer free scans. If neither of those is a option it sounds like it is time to make yourself a new friend, who also happens to work for a repair shop.
it's worth having if you own the E40D trans.
pop the hood, plug in both connecters.place on hold.turn key on.walk back under hood, hold throttle linkage wide open.slide off hold, count the beeps.look up what the beeps mean in the provided book or online, test noted sensor(s),wiring, repair or replace as needed.
if still no luck, post all symptoms exactly along with any codes, history of what codes you had,any repairs made etc.and we'll help ya diagnose as needed (preferably after checking all fuses and lights.removing, inspecting, cleaning, and greasing all connections and main power supply relay first.)
