Can the PCM be removed from a 92 7.3L IDI W/ an E4OD, if the trans is adapted to an aftermarket controler?
What got me thinking about this is my truck has 350K+ miles, the motor has been replaced & the trans was rebuilt. The Trans is acting strange. Shifting really early, smooth shift from 1 to 2, slamming from 2 to 3, then not wanting to shift into OD, reguardless of speed. With the price of fuel these days, I need to get this thing to act right.
First off do the tach and speedo work ok... no fluttering.........have you reset the FIPL since trans replaced............ What codes are set, can you check them, post the numbers.
I checked the FIPL last night with a volt meter, got 1.16 vdc @ idol, 4.78 vdc @ WOT (engine not running). The O/D light has not worked on this truck since I got it, so I can't tell if the button is pressed or not. The tach and spedo are both steady while running. I loaned my code scanner to a friend. I didn't think you could do anything with an older vehicle except KOEO/KOER scans. I guess I'll have to get it back and try it.
I did have another situation that I have lived with for a while, when driving down the highway back before the trans stopped going into O/D, if I engaged the right turn signal the truck would shift out of then back into O/D. The same would happen when signal canceled.
I checked the FIPL again, and reset it to read 1 vdc to ground with the throttle closed. I also ran a KOEO scan, and it came back with a 99 code.
Since there is no "check engine" light in the dash, i am asuming the O/D Off light is the indicator, since after I replaced the switch in the end of the shifter (because the O/D light was not working at all), the light started to flash. I did the KOEO test and cleared the codes, the light quit flashing. The truck still will not shift int O/O, but the other gear changes are not as violent as they were. I bought another FIPL sensor but am not sure weather or not to change it, since the one in the truck seems ok. I might as well change it, since I can't return it to the Ford dealer.
Took the truck to Ford dealer, they replaced the tranny with a remanufactured unit. 3yr/36K warrenty, and cheaper than the local shop's "total rebuild".
