used to be u-joints(1330's) until i go the axle wrap problem fixed.....(i still wants 1410's ) And now that i have my front 60 and rear sterling im kinda waiting to see how long it will be before i break my front 60 shafts and have to upgrade to 35 spline all the way though
Its a matter of time. I usually say run it untill you break it but I know one fellow you lost the ears of his knuckle when this stub spit out. Thats one item I'd upgrade now so save the rest of the front end.
Almost forgot: 4wdfactory.com has a package deal that has the Warn 35 spline stubshafts, warn premium 35 spline hubs, and the new big-honkin Spicer u-joints for around 400 clams. Pretty smokin deal since that stuff costs more seperatly. Coulda saved me some $$$. Thought I'd share with the rest of you guys running front D60s.
My first break was the front bumper and tie rods. The hole was a little to deep for 35's. Made it through though.
My next break was a rear axle shaft on a 10.25 rear end. My buddy let me use his 38 Tsl's and i got a little throttle happy. Went back to my 35's.
My latest break is my rear drive shaft. I tore the splined stub right off of it doing a burn out in a gravel parking lot to show off my new detroit locker. Apperently I dug down to deep and got some good tractioin on somthing really quick. All my breaks were my fault so I'd say ford trucks are really tough machines.
just mainly seems to blow out my front u joints(driveshaft). everytime we go out something ends up breaking. last trip one truck lost its stearing coupler, rear drive shaft and front end( destroyed the spider gears in it.) the other truck lost its front driveshaft and starter. had both up to do it all agian by the next week end.
