Break fluid removal

How do you remove all the fluid from the reservoir and break lines?

I would use your wifes turkey baster to remove the fluid then bleed the system starting with the right rear, left rear, right front then ending with the left front. Thats the only way to do it right, its alot of work but if your fluid has contamination it needs to be done.

Your going to need a small tube to suction fluid out of the reservoir, There is an X molded into the opening to prevent large objects from entering, including a turkey baster

LOL...I'm deleting my post, because as I was getting the links, PaysonPSD beat me to it!

That Motive bleeder bottle system looks great. I've been wanting to get one...

Simple. Take off all the bleeder valves and open the cap. Come back half an hour later it it is all gone. Flush with water if you want to be sure.

I suck out as much fluid as I can. After that I like to take the reservoir off so I can clean it. Replace it. Put fresh fluid in it. After that, you can either install speed bleeders or have the motive bottle pressurize the thing to blow out fluid or do the 2 man thing "Open. Down, Close, UP" and repeat till fresh fluid comes out.

I have the Motive power bleeder and it works very well. I did get a bad cap that would not seal on my reservior initially, however they did get me a replacement in a timely fashion

Bleeding the brake without help I just used my compressor to apply about 5 PSI to the reservoir and bled one brake line at a time. Quicker then the gravity method. Had to refill the reservoir after bleeding each line. Wish I had a Motive bleeder or Walt lived in my neighborhood.

Thanks Robin!

Not sure why it has always said it was done on a 1997, maybe the editor confused the early 99 with a 97. You guys are reminding me to get some more Super Blue and Amber fluids.

Andy,

Thanks for the link to Raceshoppers. Some good products and info.

Edit : Will 1 litre be enough for a complete flush?

You should be able to get away with just one. You might not be up to the line in the M/C reservoir especially if your pads are worn due to the extra volume req'd though.

When I raced motocross, I had a "Handy Dandy" bottle made up to see when my fluid started running clear (clean). I took a 1 Liter soft drink bottle and drilled a hole in the cap that fit SNUGLY around a piece of 3/16 ID vinyl hose. Drill a 1/16" hole beside the big hole for a vent. Stick the hose through the hole and put a small zip-tie aroud it about an inch from the end and pull it back through against the inside of the cap. Make a loop about 4" diameter in the tubing just above the cap and zip-tie it. The tubing needs to be long enough to stand the bottle up and reach the bleeder valve. Even after all the fluid mixes together in the bottle, you'll be able to see the most recent fluid coming out in the clear vinyl tubing. This won't make it one man job on a truck like it is on a bike, but you will be able to get a visual of your fluid. I hope I explained it well enough for to make if you choose to.
