Any Help Appreciated

I have a 2005 F250 superduty with 6.0L Diesel and a Edge Performance Programmer. Watching the EOT on the programmer, I have noticed recently that the EOT is varying greatly, previously the temp would go to 205 and stay there nomatter what the driving condition. now the temps are reaching in excess of 230 while highway driving under load, and dropping to 180 or less when slowing through town.
Problem being that once the temp has gone over 205, if I shut the truck off I get a no start condition till the oil cools. This being a major problem when stopping for fuel on long trips. have changed out the EOT sensor, but that didnt change anything. I am concerned about going in after the oil cooler it's a big job not knowing for sure if thats the problem.

anyone with any troubbleshooting ideas I would greatly appreciate the help. Im Stumped

Might be two unrelated things.

First, no way should your oil temp go down to 180°. Oil temp should not be lower than coolant temp, since the oil is cooled by the coolant. So if your oil is 180°, your coolant is probably that low also. Which is usually a sign that the thermostat needs replacement.

The no-start when hot is usually a high pressure oil leak, and on an '05 and up, most likely the snap to connect fitting on the HPO pump.

As far as the oil cooler, you have to get the low temp problem corrected, then monitor differential between oil and coolant temps. The simple fact that the oil reaches 230° is meaningless. That temp is within a normal range, assuming the coolant temp is also elevated.

Thanks for your info.
now if I may pester you for a little more info, mainly temperature ranges, my coolant temp also drops when driving through town. my crusing temp on the highway holds steady at 186, which from my expirence seams low.Should the coolant temp remain steady? is that the job of the thermostat?? what is the normal operating temp for coolant? also what are normal operating temps for the oil? I had the understanding that at 240 oil looses viscisity and thats why the temp of 230 worried me.
Also wondering what temp range is normal for oil?

Thanks so much for your help

You have a bad T-stat anything below 190F after you are warmed up is low.
To do a oil cooler test you need to do this after the truck is warmed up
to operation temps. On a level freeway unloaded go 60 MPH for about 5 min
the EOT and ECT should be no more than 15F delta. The not starting after hot
is a high pressure oil problem and there are some fixes that should be done.
If you are going to do one you may as well do the other at the same time.
STC fitting ,dummy plugs, stand pipes, oil cooler,High pressure filter screen.
The screen is under the oil cooler and the originals were known for failure

Best place to find out more about this and other things would be here >>>

Have a look in the tech folder lots of good info for the 6.0L

Make sure that if they add or change coolant that they use the right stuff
NOT GREEN. Use Ford Gold.
