Oil Temp.

I took my truck out on the interstate for a long drive (over 30 mi) today for the first time since i installed my edge insight. ben taking shot trips prob not enofe time to get the oil all the way up to temp.

I was driving about 70 around some hills and my engine coolant temp stayed about 189 to 195 but my oil temp got up to 250 to 260, 60 to deg hotter than the coolant i have seen some posts that say be alarmed at 250 and it is usuly 30 warmer than the coolant. but when i would get be on flat ground oil temp would be around 245 and the coolant would stay 190.

the outside temp was 75 i am running a hypertech tune on stage 3.. 4in turbo back kit with no cat it is makes a difference here or not

It pukes coolant from time to time eve after i had the egr cooler replaced and i have the egr unplugged now.

Could this be the signs of a bad off oil cooler?

If the oil cooler goes bad you get oil in the coolant because the oil pressure is higher then the coolant pressure. Puking coolant can be caused by any number of things including leaking head gaskets or filling the degas bottle alittle to full. Do a search on these things and see if one of them fits your symptoms. If the oil cooler is plugging up I would think that the coolant temp would be high also. I am not sure what is normal for oil temp but I am sure someone on here knows.

Blaster,

The oil runs a lot hotter than the coolant. I don't have an oil temp gauge in my O6 but I put one in my 79 F350 that's my project truck. I'm running a stoked 460 which is now a 545 ci engine. I have a 160 degree thermostat in it and the coolant runs right at that 160 but the oil goes up to 250. I first had the recommended 185 termostat and the oil was up at 300+ which alarmed me as the oil is supposed to break down around 350 degrees. The oil is fine at 250. From the charts I've seen on engine wear, the warmer oil reduces engine wear.

I run the MSD Dashhawk in my truck which is pretty much the exact same thing as the Insight (MSD owns Edge now). I typically see coolant temps around 195, and oil temps around 205 when driving around normally on the interstate. I definitely think something is wrong here. Either your oil temp sensor is bad, or you have an obstruction in your oil system somewhere.

Here is a link to a post I made a while back with my Dashhawk parameters and readings. You might want to take a look at it.

I haven’t found anyone on this forum who will admit to working their 6.0L harder than I work mine. I have it equipped with numerous gauges and monitor them all the time. My oil temperature exceeded 250 only once. I unloaded a 6,000 pound farm implement in Raton, NM then crossed the Raton Pass on the way to Denver. On the other side of the pass, I went across the scales at 31,230 pounds Gross Weight – this is AFTER unloading the 6,000 pound implement. During the climb, I was on the floor, 3200 RPM, and the temp actually went to 255. The water was going to 230, fan clutch kicked in, cooled to about 200 – 210. And still, after all this load/heat, the oil only reached 255 for a little while.

Normal driving is about 20,000 to 25,000 pounds gross weight and oil usually stays about 30 degrees warmer than coolant.

I second Beerstalker. I have not seen my oil temp go past 215 degree's.
My coolant temp will hit 205 and still not kick the oil temp past 215 as the fan kicks in and pretty quickly brings the coolant back to 195 or so.

If your puking then maybe the oil temp. is correct and the coolant temp. is incorrect. Either way you want to get it all checked out and resolved ASAP.
