im wondering how to tell if the oil cooler in my truck is going south. the reason im asking my truck has 164000 km on it, its been tuned/deleted since 7000. it was ran on an edge race tuner for 140000 km. and then for the last 24000 km ive had an h&s installed. in the last 3 week the oil temps and coolant temps on my h&s have been reading higher than normal. for the last 3 years and a little bit all year my truck ran 194F on the coolant temp and 198-199 on the oil temp. but for the last 3 weeks it has been running 201-207 on oil temp and 194-199 on coolant temp. the thing is to the temps never fluctuated up and down while driving at a constant speed going down the hiway. for the last 3 weeks they have fluctuated up and down while driving. what have you guys trucks ran for temps while driving on cruise down the hiway? any help would be great. its my work truck and i dont wanna get stranded i wanna fix it before it breaks down and possible cause more damage to the engine
When your temps are fluctuating, are they doing it in a consistent pattern? As in every 30 seconds it goes up, and then 30 seconds later they go down, etc. Time frame I used is just a number pulled out of nowhere, but the important thing is is the fluctuation consistent.
IIRC, if you are experiencing a consistent cycle it's a sign of bad thermostat(s) according to Ford. I know there's a TSB floating around somewhere that addresses min/max temp spreads between oil/water, possible causes and all that biz.
Hey all, I have my SD in the shop right now. I was having the issue with Temp spreads just as the OP is stating. I was informed last night that a radiator hose is collapsing. Under idle, no collapse, but under load, such as going up an incline or pulling a bit or even acceleration, the demand will cause the collapse. I was suspecting the Thermostats. The OP states he has quite a few km/miles on it, so I thought I would throw this out there. I have 96k miles on mine, just seemed ironic that the OP is stating something that I have also experienced. I pull quite a bit so I have heat generation living here in Texas a bit more than most. I am totally stock and I would not have noticed the temp spreads if it had not been for my Scangauge. I monitor EOT, ECT, EGT, and DPF outlet temps constantly.
last summer in july I had my upper and lower rad hoses replaced though. they where cracked. probably lead to the thermostat to be on its way out then eh
