Hey guys.. quick question... I pulled a digital dash from the junk yard today... and my question is... can the "matte" black finish around the "windows" where the gauges are be fixed or painted to be like factory? When I pulled it it looked perfect.. but when cleaned it.. some of the "matte" finish came off.. my old dash had dents in the matte finish from the previous owners.. so I'm glad those are gone! Also... anyone know of a good place to send the dash to get refurbished?
Thanks for all your help.. the Aerostars are coming back to 100%.. I also found a graphic equalizer!!
You have to mask that area off and use flat black paint. You need to be real carefull when getting that clear cover off. The plastic is 2 parts and will want to break where the real small screws hold it down. The trick is don't let it bend or warp and turn each screw a few turns each. The rest is prep work
with flat black paint will the "warning lights" still be visible? and the "Unleaded Fuel Only".. will that have to be silkscreened back on? Sorry for all the questions.. I'm a little out of my element..
You have to mask it off, and cut out the pattern on any parts you don't want painted. It's a big pain in the butt for the lower idiot light letters. You can mask off the square parts where they are seen from the back lights, if they are not smeared from the cleaner you used. Be sure to use the blue masking tap. Others are to sticky and will peel the paint up under it.
