rough idle
hello, i have an 82 f150 with a 4.9 300. i just finished up replacing all of the gaskets on the engine because i had an oil leak on the pan and valve cover. i figured it could stand to be freshened up. Now i have a rough idle. i have checked all of the vacuum lines and i readjusted the valves again, but it runs rough and i hear a knock near the front of the engine. i took it out on the road and it runs good but when i let off the gas it gets rough. i didnt have any problems with the engine before i worked on it no knocks, just oil leaks. any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if I can be any help with the knocks other than the normal recheck the timing and valve adjustment. Mostly I'd recheck the valves as that was the last thing you listed doing before it started knocking.
If you find the cause of the knock you'll probably find the source of the rough idle. But you might also recheck your vacuum lines for leaks.

i just came in from rechecking everything. all vac lines are good. i took off the rocker cover and readjusted the rocker arms to 20 ft lb. put everything back together and it is a little smoother but still rough. i wonder if i should change the lifters. i pulled out the valves and cleaned them when i was replacing the head gasket. the timing is at 10 BTDC. i also noticed it is getting hot pretty quick and it never did that before.
