my 95 psd, has idled rough since I bought it. I have replaced the trans.range sensor, that did not help. It doesn't matter if engine is warm or cold, soon as you start it it runs at 500 rpm's-550rpm's I dont know if that causes the rough idle OR if the rough idle causes it? I removed the valve-cover's and changed the harness's "all of them" but did not change the cover gasket. I started the engine with the covers off app. 15 times the rough idle was gone. I then instaled the covers and the air-filter and the romp is back!!!!!! What the ---- is going on????
I replaced all the glow-plugs, I checked the oil from the injectors, it looked like all the injectors was oiling the same amount and at the same time. The rough idle happens if i'm in park or neutral. The hpop is full and I use rotella 15-40. The rough idle last about 15-20 seconds, but it doesn't do it for the first 5 seconds that it runs. Why does it run good with the valve-covers off and not when they are on? Could i have a bad connection in the valve-cover gasket that only shows up when the cover is tightened down? Or maybe the air-filter is restrictive enough to cause it. Maybe the throtle is set to low????? Can i change this, if i start the engine ang give it enough gas to run at 650 rpm's or more the rough idle never happens. please help

You and I are in the same boat, Tony. My truck does the same thing but I think mine is cause of the conflicting programming and injectors that I have. Anyway my next step will be to clean the IPR per this web page
http://cw-diesel.com/LuxSite/IPRInfo.htm (note: one pics shows a pipe wrench on the threads. that is wrong it goes up further on the smooth part)

When you so it it will also be a good idea to get a new o-ring kit for the external o-rings
IPR O-Ring Kit (for when IPR valve replacement is not required)

If it comes down to it I have found that a 1k resistor wired like the original 10K mod works as well as 15.6K wired CoonhunterJoe style

Try starting it with the ICP unplugged once, see if it makes a diff,, & look for oil leaking from the sensor....
