Hello gang, im going to try to get the panel painted before the cold sets in. There has to be a panel truck painter in the bunch here. Im going with base coat clear coat. Was wondering how much product for just 1 coat ? Doing the inside - out . Thanks
I bought 1-1/2 gallons of base coat and 3 gallons of clear. I still have to paint my front fenders, grill and gravel pan. I have just over a quart left of the base coat and a gallon of clear left. I sprayed 4 coats of clear on the outside and 3 on the inside. Wet sanded the outside but said the hell with the inside. My spraying technique might not be as good as yours as I ended up with a lot of orange peel. Hope this info is of help.
Probably 1.5 gal color, 2 gal CC (which allows for a little cutting and buffing of the clear - outside) you should do at least 2-3 coats of clear on outside. What color is base-coat? (may only need 1 gal if close to primer and covers well).
Also if you use a "budget" brand of paint it may require more coats to cover....depends on the color.
Nothing worse than running out before you are done....
I'd still dig deeper in your pocket and purchase an extra quart unless you live next door to your supplier. You could run short or possibly spill some and do a lot of cursing. You'll use any leftovers eventually.
I want to paint my panel next year and was wondering how much it would take to do the inside and out. I don't remember how much I used to paint my F-2 but I thought I bought 1 1/2 gallons. I painted the entire truck, inside and out of the cab and inside and out of the box with all the fenders.
I think you will need 6 qts at a minimum. I would get 7 to be safe and it might need a full two gal. I used 6 qts. in my 55 and sprayed the entire truck, and inside the cab. My silver metal-flake will cover about the same as your blue. You want enough to cover well. You will also want to mix all you paint together after you get it home. If you get 6 or 7 qts. mix it with the gal to get all the same as sometimes when they mix paint they are off slightly between gal mix and qt. mixes.
