Ive been reading and from what ive seen on hear is that the top shocks to use are bilsteins 5100s,rancho RS9000XL,and pro comp ES9000,Icon.From what people say when installing the ranchos, even though they are adjustable, they are firmer. Not sure how the 5100 bilsteins are or pro comp or Icon v.s. the stock ride.I would think you would want a softer ride not firmer,at least I would.I think the new trucks are 100 times softer ride then any before already, but putting in lift so wondering which ones to use.
I think the general consensus around here is the stock shocks are garbage and anything you replace them with you are going to love. Pro-comps, Kings, Icons, Rancho 9000 or Bilstein's. The Rancho's and Bilstein's are a pretty economical option. I went with Bilstein 5100's all the way around and am pretty happy. I bouht mine from 4wd parts as they matched a low price from shockwarehouse (I think, been a while) that was running a sale.
For a 3/4 1 ton truck I suggest either the RS9000XL adjustable, so that you can find the ride you want, especially if you tow often you can crank it up. Or if you know off the bat you want a firmer, responive ride, the RS7000MT, monutube.
RS7000MT overview:
Rancho's RS7000MT Series Shocks are a monotube, high-pressure gas charged shock that delivers maximized heat dissipation for less fade, and maximum damping efficiency for ride quality and control. The RS7000MT features sensitive damping that reacts instantly to a wide variety of off-road obstacles that may come across your path. Other features include: Brushed-zinc clear coated finish, 2 inch diameter shock body, application specific valving, quality that far surpasses OE specifications and made in America.
RS9000XL
The RS9000XL™ shock delivers both performance and appearance to your truck and SUV. Built around a massive (2.75-in) shock body that allows for cooler and more consistent performance under the most demanding conditions – like towing, worksite hauling and off-road driving. RS9000XL™ also features a large 18-mm diameter chromed piston rod, nitrogen gas and liquid metallic finish. Covered by Rancho’s limited lifetime warranty and 90-Day free ride offer.
I had the Bilstein 5100's on my 2000, they were alright, until the salt got to them.
I went with the 9000's this time around, just wanted to try something different. I'm totally satisfied with them (although the rust is setting in and they're barely 8 months old)...
I got mine from truckaddons.com.
2 each of:
RS999042
RS999254
Just noticed you have a 250, your part numbers may be different.
