Shock Value

I know everyone has their favorite brand when considering shocks,, Rancho, Edelbrock, Monroe..etc... but just wanted to get some feedback from those who have actually purchased, installed, and road tested.
I have a stock 98 F-150, and have been researching a seemingly endless variety of shocks for the past month or so, and have narrowed down my list of choices quite a bit. I dont do alot of off-roading, outside of an occasional fishing/camping trip 3-4 times a year, so the extreme off-road shocks are already off the list.
Mainly highway, but still want some performance applications, so Ive been looking at the Rancho RSX, that claims they fit stock/no-lift.
I just want a nice smooth ride, that can handle some off-road at times.
Anyone have an opinion, or another shock suggestion, please let me know.
Oh, BTW,,, I found the Rancho RSX on-line, for $223.00 for all four, no shipping or tax.
Seems to be the best deal.

I put Monroe Sensa-Trac Shock Absorbers on my truck and was very happy with the ride.
I also put the load adjusting shocks on the rear of my '88 F150 and that really helped when I towed my rv trailer.
They are shocks with coil springs built in.
I got the Monroe shocks when they had a rebate and ended up spending around $100 for the 4 shocks!

I ran Rancho RS5000 or 4000 whatever the number was, I know they were not the 9000's, for a few years and they were terribly rough riding and extremely over priced even for the deal I got them at. I've had Monroe sensatracs on for around 10 months and they ride a lot better than the rancho's ever did and they cost a hellova lot less.

I have rode with friends who have the Monroe and Rancho shocks on there trucks but I went with Bilstein and it makes a heck of a difference. It's like night and day over stock and rides so much better than the "off road" shocks.

I installed Bilsteins on my truck last Saturday and they are far better than any shocks I have used before.

I installed the sensatracs, I think that a are a pretty firm ride. I replaced the stock ones at around 130k miles. I do miss my soft ride from the old shocks, but i feel that these shock may be a bit safer since they have the capability to keep the tire contacted with the road. This may help me to stop 1 or 2 feet shorter and that could be the distance needed to prevent an accident.

Just an update, I eneded up going with the Bilsteins ($249) for all four on E-Bay, and without a doubt was the best upgrade I have made to my 98. Unbelievable difference right out of the garage, and I was really "shocked", no pun intended, how much of a difference these shocks made. Im sold on them now, and will never use anything other than Bilstein. Just wish I could find some struts and rears for the wifes 04 Pathfinder, but I havent been able to. Not even sure if Bilstein makes them for that model for some reason.
