well i ordered the rebuild kit from summit racing,,429.95 not a bad buy ,,it comes with all gaskets, freezeplugs, bearings, oil pump, valley pan gasket, and 8 brand new shiny hyper-whatever flat top pistons made by sterling? good brand? but any ways,, i need some help from the 460 pros,,the only real performance ive got so far is a little more compression with the flat tops,1977 460 (d3ve heads)i may try to takle the ports, which ive been reading up on for a while,,i need to find a good intake/cam setup for what ive got , without having to mess with the valvetrane, other than new stem seals and springs to match the cam , any one had about the same setup that might be able to help?thanks

What is it going in, what trans, what rear gears, what do you want to do with it, drag, street, boat?
Not able to give much more than general info with what you started with.
send the pistons to HP coatings for the ceramic domes and slippery skirts.
ask Total seal if they recommend their second ring set for that motor. They make rings that Totaly seal the second groov with no gap.
Based on what your answers to the questions above, there are several companies that now have fairly extensive data bases of what works best for what application. So even if you get someone on the phone or e-mail who isn't an 460 ford expert, they can still recommend, cams, intake, carb, exhaust combos that will give the best low end torque or high end HP.
Summit, edelbrock, jegs, and many others have folks just waiting to sell you all kinds of neat go fast stuff.
I built a smogger 460 (195hp) into a fairly stout (280hp)gas guzzler many years ago... I do not remember the parts (ignition, intake, carb, cam, headders) or cam specs as there have been dozens of projects since then.
OK I am editing cuz I looked at your signature
