2 or 4 bbl carb setup?

I am building a nearly stock 1977 302 engine using a stock crank, 0.030" oversized flat top pistons, stock cam, 1990 E7TE heads. I am debating whether to stick with the stock 2-bbl intake and carb or go after a after market 4bbl intake and 650 carb. I am not trying to build a race engine, but I would like good performance and fuel economy. What do you folks think? Thanks.

Jim

id put an edelbrock performer intake on it and either an edelbrock carb or holley. 600 cfm should be about right

Well since my exhaust system needs to be replaced and the stock exhaust pipes are insanely exspensive I have decided to buy an exhaust system from Summit for less than the cost of the stock x-over pipe. Since my current two bbl carb choke set up is actuated by exhaust gases from a port on the stock exhaust manifold, I have decided to go for after market intake and 4bbl w/ electronic choke. I purchased a Weiand model 8011 Aluminum intake and a Holley 600cfm carb w/ Vacuum secondaries and an electronic choke setup that I believe will work quite well with my application. It is funny how one thing seems to lead to another.

I think with a fairly stock set up your 2V manifold and carb will give you the same mileage as a 4V would. You will lose a little power with the 2V, but you have it now and you can always upgrade later.
I have a article on building 302s and it says stock manifold and rejeted carb for a cam upto 204/214 .050 duration. Also says stock manifolds with pipes no larger than 2" max for a dual exhaust. This info was gleaned from many different 302 builds and dyno tests. The headers and manifold are good upgrades but only if you have a cam to take advantage of there ability to flow. If you staying nearly stock, stay nearly stock.
My 2 cents.

Well I have decided against staying completely stock. I purchased a Weiand model 8011 Aluminum intake, Holley 600cfm carb w/ Vacuum secondaries, 1990 E7TE cylinder heads so far. I plan on purchasing headers and installing dual exhaust, so I am also planning to purchase a better cam as well to complete the package. I will also be boring out my cylinders out 0.030" and installing 0.030" oversized flat top pistons. Anyone know the volume of the E7TE heads so I can calculate me compression ratio?
Thanks.
