I recently purchased a service manual on CD. I am getting ready to change the IP so I printed all the pages dealing with the IP change. I also have a timing meter so i printed out the dynamic timing procedure as well. Here is the question.
After connecting the timing meter, the instructions (step 5) says, "With Transmission in Neutral and rear wheels off the ground, start engine. ... set engine to 2000 RPM with no accessory load ...
Question - Why do the wheels have to be off the ground and why Neutral and not park? Does that make a difference?
i time mine in park.try it both ways and let us know if you come up with two different timing readings lol.
make sure the instructions you have, don't involve removing anything but the timing gear cover plate.all you want to remove are the two bolts under that.remove the whole top assembly, like some instructions say to do,and you'd wish you didn't.
likely for safety reasons.if she slid into gear while your standing out front revving her up to 2k rpm with the throttle linkage,it could be the end of ya.
