I went to pass someone the other day on a 2 lane. Stepped on the gas and the rocket ship started to go and then all of a sudden it just about died. The check engine light came on and stayed on. 7500 miles on it.
I called the service center and they mentioned they have seen 3 things:
1.Bad catalytic converter
2.Re-flash with a new TSB but he figured it came from the factory with that TSB already
3. Deflector shield on a spark plug is missing??????
4. all of the above.
He called me today and said it was the deflector shield on a spark plug. Ordered the part and it will be fixed tomorrow.
Has anyone heard of number 3? Does anyone know the re-flash or update he is talking about? If so should I tell him to investigate that thoroughly as well?
How do I tell if the catalytic converter is going bad?
I absolutely love this truck. It is awesome. I know things happen, but I like to take care of as many know issues while it is there in the shop.
Some spark plugs have an integrated shield onit to direct the discharge of the plug, but those I have seen have it as part of the plug and I doubt he would have to order a plug. I would love to see the part number for the "shield" when you get your repair ticket back. Was there a lot more noise just before the engine lost power? Steven
Ok. I picked her up tonight. Here is what they did:
1. New spark plug SP-528 Spark P 525775
2. New coil BL3Z-12029-C Coil AS 567730
3. New pins -W711281-S300 PIN-T 635512
4. Deflector CL3Z-19E672-A DEFLECT 635509 On Back Order for at least 2 weeks.
5. Verify IDS Test P0306 TSB 12 6 4 Replaced Coil Plug Deflector on Back order two weeks.
They are going to call when the deflector plate comes in. It turns out that it wasn't a deflector plate related to a spark plug. Brilliant service guy. He said he missunderstood the tech.
My next question comes in 2 weeks. I want to make sure that all of the latest TSB are installed. How do I know if that is completed? Is there a way to tell? A list of TSB or anything like that out there?
I looked it up the deflector plate part number is the one for the Intercooler Condensation issue. The rest of it sounds like you messed up a plug. Can't understand why they would change a plug coil and the pins for the connector plus the plug if it just failed unless they thought the whole thing quit working.
sounds like the condensation thing not a big issue theres a running thread on it right now, really not a huge issue just have to work through the condensation build up so it gets clean air again and when driving in high humidity (more so when the dew point is the same as the temperature) dont use cruise control and ever now and then give it some gas that way any little condensation gets pushed through before it has a chance to build up
