i want to make crazy horsepower with a 300-6

i have a 1993 f150 with a 302 and e4od 3.55 that i want to replace with a 300. and make crazy horsepower and torque. for the 2wd truck pulls. what trans and rear-end should i use? i think nitrous is acceptable. here is a link to the rules.

Yeah, right.....Uhm, buy a stock 460 and have torque on par with the most jacked up 300 you are capable of.
Tranny, C6 of course, rear end, Dana 70

Generally, the strongest transmissions are considered to be the T18/19, NP-435 (for manuals) and the C6 (for automatics).

The 9" is considered to be quite a bit stronger than the 8.8" you have. 9" came in 86 and prior trucks (stopped producing them in 82 or so).

If you're going to be using nitrous, I think the biggest issue you're going to run into is the head. For the long 6 cylinder head, there's only 14 bolts. So, only 4 bolts per cylinder. Fine for what it is, but not a lot of clamping power for forced induction. You'll want the strongest head bolts/studs you can get, and possibly a custom metal head gasket that's not going to blow out.

If you want to spray it with a lot of nitrous you'll want some ARP rod bolts & Head Studs, Forged pistons, And a custom $$$$$ MLS head gasket from Cometic ( Cometic Gasket, Inc. ) . That will take care of the 300's weak links.

Take care of the above and the main road block you'll run into with the 300 trying to make big power is the head. At the minimum you'll want to do some porting to the stock head. Pay lots of attention to the bowl work.

If you are serious about some big power you'll want to pick up some aftermarket 351C 4V aluminum cylinder heads. They need to be cut into a few pieces ( not just two pieces ) and welded back together to make a 6 cylinder head. There were drag racing guys back in the 70's that did this with cast iron Boss 302 heads ( basically the same as 351C heads ) for their 300's. This isn't a job for the Timid!! I don't know what your skill level is. But if you wanted to do this but didn't have the skills you could find a good machine/fab shop that could do it for you. This style head will require a custom cam, intake and header.

Much cheaper to drop in a 460/C6 combo.

Finishing dead last in a pulling truck powered by a 300 with a manual tranny does have a certain charm.

I like my 300 but as the great Harry Callahan once said, a man's got to know his limitations. When the alternative to a V8 is THOUSANDS of dollars for cut and furnace brazed 351C heads (which may not be allowed in that class anyway) plus a custom header/intake a 460 makes a lot more sense. Especially considering even a mildly built 460 will still make more torque across the rpm range than the hottest 300.

If everybody did what "makes a lot more sense" the world would be a very boring place! We'd all be driving little electric cars.

I didn't look at the rules before. Now that I did I see his nitrous idea is out. You could still hog out the stock 300 head. And bump the compression to around 13.5:1. Nothing like a gas powered diesel.

I also like to not march to the same drummer as everyone else, but not to the extent of shooting myself in the foot.

A hole in the foot sounds better then just being another one of the herd.
