smoke??

I'm new to diesels so I'm wondering....should I be concerned about
white fumes from the tailpipe?

Yes you should. They are usually caused by a leaking egr cooler (smell like coolant) or a cracked injector tip leaking excess fuel (smells like fuel).

Yes. Under normal conditions you shouldn't notice anything major from the tailpipe. If its a small amount and depending on weather conditions, it could be condensation in the exhaust evaporating as the exhaust warms up. If its a significant amount or you see it when the truck is warm, it could be coolant or fuel. Try to get a whiff of it, the smell will be obvious.

to double check the odor just cover the pipe with your hand for a couple of secs and smell your hand.
like they said if it smells like:
sweet = coolant = egr cooler(usualy)
fuel = injector probs
