Thinking of putting new shocks on my truck. It has 148k and I think it still has the original Rancho's. I want to patronize the vendors/sponsors on this site and get their opinions, but I'm not 100% sure how to do that. I'm thinking between KYB and Bilsteins. Do you guys recommend a particular member on here to deal with for shocks, or is there a feedback page I can look at? Is there a link to follow? I tried the "Vendor" link, but I wasn't sure how to use that and apply the FTE discount if there was one. Don't need a discount, but would be nice if someone gave one. I'll keep looking around.
Shocks are very much an opinion topic, so here is my opinion.
Only two brands of shocks interest me for the Super Duty.
1. Bilstein. The HD model is fine for stock suspension. The 5100 racing model for lifted trucks.
2. Rancho. The model RS7000 as a minimum. The model RS9000 if you would like adjustability. Avoid the RS5000, which in my opinion is too light for ANY offroading in a heavy truck like ours, or for any lifted trucks. The RS5000 is about the equivalent of your OEM Rancho branded shocks.
I think shockwarehouse.com used to be a sponsor here, or maybe eshocks.com. Looks like neither one is listed any more. Rancho is a sponsor, but do they sell direct? Don't think so, so I don't know how you would finagle a discount. I like shockwarehouse and eshocks for both of those brands.
Am I looking in the right area when I follow the "Vendor" link, or is there somewhere else that specifically lists the sponsors? Thanks for the opinion! From other reading, anything is better than 148k miles on the originals, so I'm just going to go by others opinions, although Bilsteins seem to be the overwhelming favorite. My truck is not an offload rig. I use it mostly for longer trips and occasionally pulling a heavy trailer load of mulch, my snowmobiles, etc. Extreme duty is not required for my application.
If you went 148k on those OEM shocks, you definitely don't work them hard.
There is a SPONSOR link under the SHOP tab at the very top of every FTE page. That is where sponsors will be found, and you can search by name or product.
I installed Monroe Reflex and like them a lot. I only drive on the highway. I will be due for new shocks in a couple of months and will purchase the same ones again.

I had those on my 05 and liked them, but I went cheap on my 06 and just installed regular Monroe gas magnums and the front is mushy.
