My 1973 F100 2wd came original with a 302 and C4. My truck was passed down to me from my grandfather and at one point in time he had locked up the original motor (oil pump failure), and the local mechanic swapped in a 250, yes a 250, not a 240 or 300, that bolted up to the c4. I am in the process of swapping back in a late model ('92 F150), 5.0 block and mate to the c4. I have run into a couple of issues. One, when I set the motor and trans in, I was at least 5-1/2" too far forward. The transmission mount wasn't even close to the cross member. I then noted that the frame and crossmember had multiple holes drilled so the mounts could be moved back and forth. This made sense, I wasn't thinking, since the I6 is longer than the 302. I moved the motor mounts back to the last position on the crossmember, the passenger side is fine, the driver side has some interference with the steering box. Anyone had problems with this? Also, I am still about 2-1/2" too far forward to match up to the engine mounts. Do you think I have the correct engine mounts as I am pretty sure the mounting location on the block has not changed over the years. I am using Anchor part #2564 for the engine mounts. Help??
the metal frame mounts are different. You need to find 2wd 302 frame mounts, and then buy the same year motor mounts. The holes should be there for the proper location.
in one of my galleries you can see the modified mounts we used to mount the 302 in place of a 300 but required cutting, adding on, etc. I think they were the 300 mounts that we dropped and moved back, then added onto the flange to match up to the holes in the frame.
Here are some pics of what I have, engine and frame mount, and picture of how far I am from connecting. So you are saying these frame mounts are incorrect, and that would make the engine mount incorrect also. Can anyone direct me to some 302 frame mounts? I have the frame mounts in the most rearward holes, but I did notice that there are two more holes in the crossmember that are a bit further back. Maybe they are for the mount you are speaking of.
