Just replaced the trans in my 93. Tried to start it and the starter is hanging or something. Tried a different starter same thing happened. It has the 5.0 engine. Any ideas this is a new one for me.
Sounds like you didn't have the tc fully seated into the trans before installing it.
You should not have needed use the bell housing bolts to pull/force the housing up to the block.
To test, remove all TC to flex plate nuts. If you can move the TC back away from the FP a little bit move it around little bit its all the way in and not the problem. If you can not move it back away from the fp, can't move it at all not even a little bit? its not fully seated and you may have damaged the pump.
Thanks for the reply. Converter was seated. Took it to a shop via tow truck yesterday morning. They tried to start it and had same issue. They tried to start it this morning before it was put on the rack and everything worked fine. Started right up with no noise. The inspection cover was removed and there was no metal flakes or any evidence of gear damage. Not sure what it was but it seems to have solved itself wish everything worked like that! Still working.

Are you aware that there are two different starters for your truck ?
One is for a manual transmission and the other is (of course) for an automatic.
The "manual" version won't engage with the flywheel to turn the motor over with an automatic transmission.
