Guys, can i use this weight oil to flush the rear diff for a day, to wash out whats left of the oil/water mix, i got going on in there, then refill with synthetic?
good enough for me, thanks guys. Just found as well, wiping the diff cover off, that theres metal shavings/ferrous in there too...not good. SO, gonna fill ur up ALOT, jack rear-end up, turn tires to slosh crap around, then pull cover again. Wipe out the best i can, and fill up with synthetic. Besides this finding, replacing the axle wasnt bad, except for, got in a hurry and installed new seal on hub WITHOUT installing the inner bearing first
Just an FYI, I did mine the other day, ordered Royal Purple from Advance auto pts and got 15% off. Every little bit helps especially when it's over 20 bucks a quart and it has the friction modifier already in it.
Put a magnet in there while you are running your "flush" oil, it will catch and keep the metal in one place rather than letting it float around in the oil destroying things. Clean it and put it back with the good oil to hang on to any pieces that might be hanging out in there.
