only true "line" that will leak is the passenger side hard fuel line. It runs thru a clamp, which overtime, rubs a whole in it. Other than that, you'll know when the hpop lines let loose. Easy fix for the hardline, if its not leaking yet, is to install a piece of fuel line over it, inside the clamp.
The oil leak didn't take long to find as it was more of a geyser than a leak. It seems as though it is coming out of the hole in my third picture. It is definitely right below the turbo wheel. I was under the impression that the hole there was for the ebpv sensor and that wasn't related to oil? Maybe I misunderstood. Tranny feels tight going into gear. I can't wait to be able to start driving this...
Thanks for the clarification, I was thinking it was just for exhaust pressure. Really surprised me to see oil pumping out f it. Back to the parts store I go.
Well many parts, lots of help, and experience later, I have a running truck! Driving it I am thinking it got left beside the road because the guy was in a hurry and walking was faster... It seems to have several electrical issues, mainly the turbo doesn't kick on , but also the od button doesn't work, none of the windows, locks(it sounds like they are trying to move but it doesn't lock or unlock), or mirrors work. I am thinking it would be relay related but looking through the manual nothing really jumped out at me. I am heading to Montana on Sunday from Colorado and have about 40 hours to get this fixed and new set of tires. Happily accepting suggestions for the problems or donations for the tires
The door lock issue is very common on these trucks, many people do the "tin foil mod" and fix it with a small piece of tin foil. The Stealership charges 120.00 per lock actuator!
By the turbo not "kicking on" is it not spooling up? Did you do an EBPV delete and did you remove the butterfly in the exhaust outlet?
The OD light is another common issue, The wires fray and short out I had that issue on my Excursion. the Linkage part number is 5C3Z-7210-AAA, I used this write up, https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&p...M2Q5YjdmODQ4NQ
It sounds like you have a hell of a project truck.
With as many problems as you are describing... it sounds like she was beat up good and hard. Lucky you tho... all the issues your experiencing, we have already been there.
For your windows... check the connections to the switches in the door panels. You need to check all of them... because if on is loose... not even the driver switches will operate them.
Turbo not spooling up... check for black soot up where your up pipes and y collector meet up at the very top/back of the engine. Those pipes hook directly to your exhaust manifolds. Get under there with a flashlight and follow them up to check t he bottomside of the drivers side pipe for leaks at the collector. They should be blatantly obvious black soot marks from raw exhaust escaping. Those pipes, and the pressure in them is what drives your turbo. The only electronically controlled portions of your turbo are the wastegate, and exhaust back pressure valve. The ebpv can give you major problems if its stuck closed. The wastegate willrelieve exess pressure on the turbine housing when open. If opening to early i think it would kill your boost.
Get codes read with a good scanner. Stealerships suck...but they can be a valuable diagnostic tool when no other options are available. Get them to plug in and see whats going on.
Thanks, yes I bought and installed a blank pedestal and also removed the butterfly valve in the exhaust port. Also installed the aih delete plug. Ok. I felt around at that Y connection and there isn't any soot. I fired it up and it is puking black smoke from that fitting so I assuming your intuition was right on and that the problem is new. I am glad to hear that the other issues are common and not from another grand worth of missing parts . The Y connection seems to be tight? What would cause it to start leaking? This project has been a lot of fun and learning. I will try and post some pictures of my last project. It was a massive.
Well, seems it was my fault, I didn't notice it was also missing a clamp... Added the clamp and now I have a turbo and it scoots real well. I still have some by blow by or exhaust from the Y not sure if there would be a gasket there or if it is cracked??? and also the box on the valve cover on the drivers side seems to be leaking blow by and there is an oil leak from there. Here are some pics of my last project. I am not afraid of a challenge. It turned out really well but I didn't keep it. I wanted a diesel...

Getting the Y collector to seat correctly onto the baby's butt can be tricky. The collector can sit up on the alignment dowel and result in a healthy exhaust leak. Also the up pipes fit into the Y collector and seal with donut gaskets. These are notorious for leaking which kills boost and puts soot all over. The cheap fix is a set of Felpro 8194 gaskets, but if the up pipes are rusted away they will not seal well. The real fix is bellowed up pipes. The dog house on the valve cover is the crankcase vent and tends to be oily. If it is removed to do the CCV mod the orings mating to the VC are always swollen and very difficult to replace properly, and then they leak oil pretty good. Easiest is to put in new orings, but I spent about an hour working mine back into position and no leaks.
Good job getting the ol' girl goin!
