map sensor driving me nuts

I put a post on here about no bottem end power and it was suggested to unplug the map. That fixed it there was all kind of low end power so that tells me bad sensor or plugged line so I replaced the map and made sure nothing was plugged and it has no low end again. Unplugged it rocks. What's going on here? Did I get a brand new map that's no good?

Did you just blow trough one end of the line? Blow trough both ends. The inside of mine had come apart and when I'd blow in the line from the map side it was clear but blowing from the plenum side a piece of the line would flip up and block the line

I'd replace the entire MAP line all together. It is a cheap replacement.

I'd get whatever size in fuel hose. That way if you have a fuel rupture under the hood it will not hurt the hose.

Replacing it eliminates the possibility of any cracks in the old hose causing leaks. Blowing through it won't tell you if there is a crap causing a leak.

A good thing to remember is before you spend almost $200 on a new sensor, go ahead and replace the $20 or so items that are easily replaceable first. You never know when it really is just a sensor. Your old MAP sensor might be fine, but just had a bad hose (which I suspect as the case since the new MAP did the same thing).

i will give the new hose a shot. its pulling a p-0237 and runs great with the map unplugged so hopefully it will be an easy fix. if the new hose dosent work im gonna trace those wires to the pcm. i did thefirst 3 feet but stopped cause it looks like its gonna get tricky

MAP sensor are tough to troubleshoot without the proper equipment. Easiest way is to hook up a boost gauge to see if you actually have boost. If you don't get a CEL with the MAP connected then for the most part it is working, including the wiring, although you might not have enough boost for it to work properly. This is where the boost gauge comes in handy, divide and concur. If you have a volt-ohm-meter with a HZ option you can measure the output on the MAP directly to verify operation while using an air compressor to simulate boost.

I have a boost gauge and its reading boost after 2000 rpm it jumps fast at wot to 26 28. I have a ohm meter. What should it read. And no cel while its plugged in. But I do pull a 0237 code

A standard ohm meter won't work. You need a volt ohm meter that can read frequency, usually it is marked as HZ on the dial.

Instead of retyping everything here is a thread where I did a small writeup on checking the MAP output using such a meter ...

Go to post #26.

What is the Ford part number on the MAP sensor?
