Hey guys, I recently bought a 1991 Bronco. The problem I'm having with it is the driver seat. When you adjust the back rest forward a little (that is comfortable for me) it wont stay locked in. As soon as you lean back against the seat it leans back about 2-3 inches. I pretty sure something is either loose inside the seat, or it is extremely worn out.
I called the junk yards and another seat would be around $100 each..I would need to also have them re-upholstered in my seat color. Thats another $120 a seat.
So I was wondering if you guys knew what the problem might be. These darn seats look brand new.. I would hate to get rid of them!! Thanks in Advance!!
First check to make sure there is nothing connecting the seat back to the seat bottom other than the bolts on the pivot point. Take the back off and take a look at the stops for the seat back. If there is alot of wear, or anythign broken, get those parts form a salvage yard. Would be cheaper than buying a whole new seat.
Ditto what BillyBob69 said, check out the seat. I had a 90 about 6-7 years ago that did the same thing. I lifted the cover on the side of the seat ( i think it had a zipper) and found the blots that held the back of the seat came loose. Everytime I sat it the seat it would recline a few inches till the bolt wedged itself in place. I just changed the bolts and never had a problem again
I took the seat out of the truck. Then I took off that plastic cover on the side of the seat. In there is two hex bolts.
The two bolts were barely finger tight. That was causing the seat to lean back. I tightned those suckers down real tight and now my seat does not lean anymore!!!
THanks for all the great help guys. I saved over $500!!!
