Would my truck already have the backup camera cable from the rear up to the OH console or dash?
Is the Edge Insight OBD cable long enough to reach from the OBD port up to the OH console? I'd like to mount the unit up there in place of the front flip down sunglass holder. Maybe not as handy but might keep someone from breaking int my truck to ****** the edge.
If your truck does have a cable for a camera it would be located on the passenger side of the vehicle. With the tailgate closed look underneath, you'll see an opening in the bottom of the tailgate, this is where the harness for the camera would come out of the tailgate. It then plugs into another connector that's directly in front of it ahead of the receiver hitch cross member up above the spare tire just to the right of the tube that you insert the handle to raise and lower the spare tire with. If you had this wiring the on your truck the connector would have an orange cap on it to protect the connector. The display for my ford factory camera is integrated in to the rear view mirror.
Thanks for the reply. I don't think the wiring is there. I was planning to mount the Insight up in the OH console in place of the front sunglass door so the factory wiring would have been nice. I have since used the cable that came with the camera and ran it up to the dash for use with a dash pod. I'm very pleased with the Bravo View license plate camera I got at Walnuts. We install a lot of high end cameras (600tvl and up) and this little 420 line camera has a decent resolution. Not to mention that it's a heavy duty license plate frame as well. Good deal for a C-note!
