Bingo. How come you aren't running an Edelbrock or Holley carb on it?

I will eventually put prob a Holley carb on it. Just wanted to get it running first, so I put it back stock. Didn't want to spend the $ on a new intake and carb. So many other things that need to be done first.

It could be that your engine back fired and caused the power valve in carb to blow. Holleys are known for that, that is why i swithced to edelbrock. If the truck timing is good and its hard starting or very hessatant on acceleration then most likely power valve. if not then it sounds like timing.

I just noticed you posted that you were planning on a holley in the future but a motorcraft carb also has a power valve, check it out. I recomend Edelbrock carbs, I put on on my 67 f250 with a 360 that had a holley and boy what a difference.

Just a small diaphram on the front of your carb with 4 bolts and a linkage that goes to your throttle linkage. Thats if you have a motorcraft carb. Holly is on top i beleive. Its been a while but i will check if you need me to. Should be less than $10.00 bring that fuel pressure down to less then 8 lbs

I have been researching power valve for the past few minutes. Someone mentioned it before, but I guess I misunderstood them because I didn't check it. After reading about it I will be checking it tomorrow. A couple of sites said to take the idle screws all the way in... If it is still running... Its the Power Valve. On the Motorcraft, I will have to pull off the carb. It is on the bottom. Luckily, I believe I have an extra to the house. While I have it out (if that is the problem) I will be installing the power valve protector. I have a refurbished carb so i thought it would have one...

That would be the accelerator pump. The power valve has a similar cover with 4 screws but is on the bottom side of the carb and has no linkage going to it, it operates from vacuum signal.

Holley has their power valves threaded into the primary metering block. Not sure where the power valve is in a Motorcraft carb - or if there even is one.

i havent read trough all the comments but you are correct about the PV. If its bad the idle escrew wont effect it much if any. also try tightening the PV. if its loose (finger tight) it can appear to be bad.

That was my problem on my autolite 2100

Ok. Power valve is good. Intalled the regulator. Runs good at about 3.5psi. Still have issues with the idle. Is there a thread that goes step by step on tuning? I'm just not doing something right....
