Transmission skips

My transmission skips (not bad, but irritating) until the fluid is at normal operating temperature. I had the PCM re-flashed, but still the same problem. Any ideas?

2006, F-350, 6.0. No upgrades

What do you mean by "skips"? Did you mean "slips"? How many miles, and what is the transmission service history? Any mods?

Yes, it slips until warmed up. 120k on mileage and no mods. Service history is good, proper fluid and filter changes.

What fluid have you used in the tranny? Name brand and type. SP or LV? Changed the external trans filter? Last mileage changed?

Amsoil synthetic, I think SP. I couldn't locate an external filter. Ideas of where it is?

Up under pass side of front bumper..... don't hand wrench on it....use a impact wrench or else you'll bend the pipe above it.

If you can't locate that filter then chances are it hasn't been changed. So, we can throw out that statement..lol
Anyway, as stated you can find that filter passenger side underneath the truck, look just before the radiator. Not sure on the Amsoil Trans fluid either.

Amsoil is not an SP or LV type tranny fluid. If it were my truck I'd take it to a Ford dealer and have the tranny hot flushed with the proper fluid and also get that ext. filter changed. Every 30,000 miles is the recommended interval.

Careful when you drop it...the canister will be full of fluid.

I think we have found both of the causes.

Amsoil has a low viscosity fluid that meets the SP/LV spec. My dad has had it in his Torqshift for about 25k now and tows very heavy pretty often.

Gents, AMSOIL sells a synthetic product specifically for these transmissions. AMSOIL - Synthetic Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATL)

Use what your comfy with, it's your trucks, I've had no problems with SP or LV and I still have 3 1/2 years esp warranty left. I'll stick with what got me this far and is recommended.
