Hey all, it has been quite some time since I've been on here, but things were going smoothly for once! Until....I was driving along the other day and the truck just shut off, and wouldn't restart. It is getting fuel, I checked for loose or burnt wires, busted fuses and anything in between, I had a spare coil and tried that and still nothing. I'm not good at this electrical crud and any help would be great. Oh, I have an 84 with a 302, the duraspark system has been replaced with an MSD box and Blaster 2 coil. Thanks!
ASSuming your not getting spark, Id try the old duraspark module if you can. To check for spark, hold the coil wire 1/4" or so from a ground while cranking the engine.
Ah, i should have been more specific, my apologies. The motor cut out, all the lights and electronics work, there is just no spark, I pulled a plug wire off and attached it to the firewall while my brother cranked, no spark. It will crank all day but no spark.
Just an idea, but with the distributor cover removed, do the internals rotate when the engine is cranked? If not, you know the distributor is the problem. If it does rotate, it may still be the distributor but also could be your MSD box. Lastly, could there be a loose wire from the MSD box keeping a signal from being generated? Just food for thought.

Good point, but if the internals dont turn it is more likely a timing chain than the dist. Could be the roll pin on the dist gear sheared though.
The distributor is brand new as is the motor. The distributor did turn, i did check that. What i forgot to mention was that the MSD box was EXTREMELY hot to the touch after the truck shut off, I knew they ran hot but i could not even touch it.
I double and triple checked all the wires coming into and going from the box.

Well, if the distributor is turning, it is unlikely that is the problem. I don't think the MSD box should get that hot, but others may know better. I would be looking at the MSD box as the possible source of the problem.
It's all good! At least now I have a better feeling that it is probably the box, I'm going to bust out the test light today and prod around, I appreciate the input though! Thanks!
