just finished installing turbo back on engine (unison ring rusted to housing) and took out for a test. Runs much better but after getting it up to temp. I dropped the hammer from about 35-40 mph and held it. At about 70 I had a very loud boom and a wave of air hit me (engine cover off). The hose that is connected to the turbo outlet side blew off with what seemed a lot of pressure. I thought the clamp was tight. Is there any way the system could have been over pressurized to blow the hose off. I am going to retry tomorrow. I can't see how the cooler could be clogged since only air goes thru it, but when it blew it had what seemed like a lot of pressure. Truck has 30,000 miles on it. Any input. Thanks
It can't be stressed enough, make sure all of the oil/grease is off the CAC tubes & boots; I've found that brake cleaner will get 'em clean. I want to say you need to torque the clamps to 20 Ft/Ibs; but if you get them "good & tight" after getting the tubes/boots clean you shouldn't blow them off again.
Since you just reinstalled the turbo...I'm going to assume you cleaned the vanes and applied anti-seize (1600F) before putting everything together. If so, I doubt your overboosting the boots.
