Does any one know where to find the chrome strip that goes down the center of the hood of a '47 pickup? Mine's missing and I havent been able to locate one anywhere.
None are being made reproduction, and they can be tough to find used. Just to let you know, don't just look for the chrome ones, they are not originally chromed. They were painted Tacoma Cream on the Fords, and chromed only on the Mercury trucks made in Canada. try Hemmings for them, I'm sure you could find them there.
One alternative that might work is searching Ebay auctions. I found some of the hood parts (like the whiskers and latch) for my 1947 PU in one of the auctions. Sometimes you can even find NOS items like this for sale.
You may even find sellers parting old PUs including sheet metal parts among others.
Yes Virginia they are being repopped.
Drakes has them I believe in shiny stainless steel and for about $45. Not bad for a new straight and unrusty one, just glass bead, and paint it!
NFIW although I have sent them massive amounts of $.
Good Luck.
BTW I am searching for the tailight bracket for a 42-47 panel truck if anyone knows of one.
Thanks in advance.

1947 1/2 ton panel- 4.9L, C6, 9 inch, disc brakes on stock axle with tube shocks all around. This is a project (read 'money pit').
Yes - most definately order the catalog. I noticed that there are a lot of parts I could find in both Drake's and Mac's catalog's that I couldn't find in their online stores
There is a complete set (including mounting clips) on eBay Motors right now with a starting bid of $190 but I forget if they are listed under "47 Ford" or under an earlier year (would be the same anyway)
