Helped a stranded vehicle up a steep grade on a hot day. I didn't want to go too fast or the tow rope might not take it, so I put it in 2nd. After a short time, the RPMs kept climbing up, but I wasn't speeding up and I had to give it more to keep it going. I'm used to towing with a clutch and I didn't know what I was experiencing here. I now know a bit more. All the class cost me was 4 grand... plus it put me on the path of PMS... so it really cost me a whole lot more. At least I ended up with a killer truck out of the deal. I ar sutch a spaz.
Lots of good advice. I would also add a large trans cooler out front. Get gauges and pay attention to them when pulling heavy loads. It will extend the life of your transmission and turbo. I always lock out the OD at the bottom and keep rpm's at 2650 till I top the hill and things stay nice and cool that way. I use the DP 40 horse mode when I'm maxed out and it doesn't build heat as fast.
well i did the 4"turbo back already.next will be intake(6637).and then guages but i dont know if i want to tackle drilling and tapping the egt guage myself?
i did leave the od locked out till i hit the highway.i never dropped below 40 or 45 so its not like i was creeping.thanks for the help next time ill exercise the skinny pedal a little more!
i kinda figured id get a comment like that that was a good one!
...but i dont know if i want to tackle drilling and tapping the egt guage myself?
Do some homework on AIH delete (it's one of the easiest mods to do) and buy one of these [LINK] to install your boost sender into (assuming electrical/electronic gauge). When it comes time to do the work, you'll feel like a pro because all the pieces are there and it makes a clean install. Remember to put wireloom around your cables to protect them from chafing.
^^^^ That works for the boost gauge, or you could T the MAP line.
But...for the EGT, you are either going to have to drill and tap(what is your concern? Just never used one? Or are you worried about the shavings, because you shouldn't it will be fine.) or there are some probes that you don't have to tap and a clamp holds them on, personally I don't like them though.
GOOBER ALERT! I slipped up when I read the thing that I cut and paste. Sorry. You know what you're doing. I had to replace my manifolds and had one drilled/tapped before install.
i never drilled and tapped before but im not worried about that.yes it was the shavings.when i get ready to install(probably the spring)im sure ill be asking for more input.
i should only be towing my camper 1 more time this year.
thanks for all the input
if worried about shavings, like i was, put grease on the tap bit, then afterwards, put a piece of duct-tape over the vacuum hose from ur shop-vac (if you have one in the garage), then punch a hole in it for a bendy straw. use it then to suck whats left of shavings out, but like everyone said, the shavings will get spent out the exhaust.
