I own a 1997 5.4L expedition. I have experienced something which I think is a bit strange and since I am not that mechanically inclined I thought I would ask for some advice.
When I tow my boat, ( I live in Las Vegas, temps average 95-105) I can hear a knock or rattling sound coming from the drivers side of the engine. As soon as I unhook the trailer and drive without the boat, the sound goes away.
actually I only noticed the noise when I got out of the car and it was idling; I rolled down the windows and tried to hear it when I was driving but I did not hear the noise, but I did feel a little loss of power.
What you could be hearing is engine knock from using to low of grade of gasoline, try a tank of the high grade. It's my understanding that these engines require the higher grade of gas.
