Weird Engine Noise
Ok, I have a question. My Dad has a '97 F-150 with the 4.6L engine. It has 195,000 miles on it and is still going strong. But for the past year and a half of so, it has this knocking sound. Whenever I take it out of overdrive, go up a hill of just plain floor it, this noise occurs. Could it be gas knock? Should we fill it with Plus or Premium? I know that engine is supposed to run on regular, but with tired engines like my Dad's, do think it would help? Is it even a knock? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Try Premium in it. If the sound goes away it is most likely pinging. Do a full tune up and go back to regular octane. Otherwise, it's something else but I would try the easy route first...
