2002 F-150 High-pitch squeel coming from rear end when accelerating
2002 F-150 Automatic
A new noise showed up yesterday on my truck. When accelerating, there is a loud squeeling noise coming from the rear end (almost sounds like a belt but in the back). When I let off the gas pedal, it stops. Also, when I come to a complete stop, there is an additional noise (different kind though) the last 2-3 seconds before stopping. It also happens while making a turn. I just got my brakes done a few months ago, and I don't think it has to do with that at all, as it doesn't happen when I apply the brakes.
When trying to isolate the sound more, a friend said the sound seemed to be coming from the wheel area on both sides. We put it in neutral and moved it forward, no noise. He checked the u-joint, but it didn't feel loose at all. We shook the bed up/down, left/right - no noise.
Any suggestions? Unfortunately, my husband or I can't get off work at all to take it into the shop until later in the week. We're hoping it's something that can wait, but we're trying to figure out if it's something we need to make sure to address immediately. Yesterday, the squeeling noise when accelerating wasn't as bad and seemed to happen between 30-40mph, but it constantly did the other noise when coming to a complete stop. But today, the squeeling noise was more prominent and happening at intervals from immediately stepping on the gas up to 50mph.

wheel bearings are loaded all the time, so normally you get a constant noise if they are bad.. If it only happens when your on the throttle, then its related to the drive shaft U joints, or the pinion bearings in the differential. The LS clutch can make nosie also, but normally you hear more when turning corners than straight line travel.

I would think it might be the pinion bearings, wheel bearings usually make a rumbleing sound and u-joints will often chirp when they are really bad.

Suspect the EMG brakes either side.
If the discs have never been off, there is a good chance they are coming apart.
Two shoes, two springs, two shoe clips and an adjuster.
They have no place to go.
All you need to do is remove two caliper bolts, lift off the caliper and remove the disc.
Often getting the discs off is a big job if they have never been off.
Good luck.
