Start simple;
change fuel & air filters
clean the MAF sensor
clean the IAC
clean the air temp sensor, near the MAF sensor
check for vacuum leaks
make sure your not loosing coolant
check the emergency brakes....make sure they are not hanging up
bad gas?
thanks but all that has been gone through everything in that manner is fine,no over heating at all or leaks, only does it when temps outside are above 90 or so, does it alot when pulling my boat, changed tranny fluid and filter no slipping in tranny what so ever, its like the engine wont accelerate for a short time then it goes, only when taking off after stopping in the extreme heat,
There is a service bulliten TSB 02-12-3 addressing this issue.
Go to a dealer and have them check into it and may require an update reflash of the PCM to prevent the PCM from excessivly retarding ignition timing.
As you indicate, the IAT sensor in the intake is signalling the PCM of the heat buildup in the engine bay during the low speeds and stops.
.
Go to the top of this page and click on Recalls/TSB then on full text TSB. Select your F150 year range and scroll down to the indicated TSB.
Print it out and take it with you.
.
Good luck and let us know if it helped.
was reading over the tsb bluegrass sounds like its described to the T of my symptoms, taking it in this coming monday to have it updated,il let ya know if it works
Wow, I've been having the same problem, only in high temps and humidity. The engine seems too have very little power at low speed and take off in high temps. Once the 60's are back power returns, like 50% more. A few weeks ago I could barely tow a utility trailer up a steep hill. When you press down on the accelerator pedal it goes half way to the floor before some power starts to come on. Tried everything as mentioned above and was also wondering if the converters are clogging, but that wouldn't explain the return in power when the temp drops again.
I will look into that TSB and can't wait to get my new JBA SS Ti shorty headers on and the new Flex-O-Lite #270 E-fan installed to! just hope that E-fan is reliable long term? I paid a pretty penny for both. Hopping for an additional 20 hp when they're both installed. I do need to clean The IAC passages again, it's been 7 years since I did. My milage recently (2 yrs. ago) dropped from 20 hwy to 17.5. wonder if that was the topper I added or what?
the updated program fixed the problem truck runs better then ever , so much more power plus shift better,$100.18 at a local shop alot cheaper then the dealer. i highly recommend doing this if your having these symptoms, my 1999 f150 4.6 had the same problems but i never had the update done on it, thanks bluegrass great diagnosis
