I just replaced the transmission in a 97 mountaineer 5.0 awd. whata PITA that was. Now for some reason, its acting up. its a friends truck that sat for two years after replacing the torque converter and not solving the issue. seems like the junkyard transmission is shifting smoothly, its bucking at times and seems to downshift whenever it feels like. he took it home last night and he said on the highway when he lets off the gas it downshifts right away, after driving it for a little bit it was shifting good, but when i was on a hill and stepped on it it kind of delayed, engine reved, then it shifted and took off but it was a hard shift. only seems to do that when you step on it harder then normal. also seems so hift back and forth between third and second or forth and third (almost like my old lincoln did until i adjusted the tv cable (but i dont think there is one on thi truck right?) also, the selector wont go down to 1. any ideas on how to solve these issues? thanks in advance.
would you have to drop the pan to do that? its a 4R70W/AOD-E trans. so its just a cable from the column shift to the arm on the trans. i thought maybe it would have to be adjusted in the column itself (via the plastic thumb wheel) but the selector lines up nicely on the R N (D) 2 (on the P it goes more to the left side of the P) and doesnt even make it to the 1.
