Hey folks, after 2 years & 3 months I finally got up to 27,000 miles on my KR & even though it appears I have plenty of life left in the OEM Michelins, I want to start shopping a little to be ready when it comes time to re-shoe the beast. I don't off road or drag race or anything special & don't pull a RV, just mostly pleasure short trip stuff.
When you guys have replace your OEMS what did you find the best deal on & what did you wind up buying?? Thanks
The OEM Michelins are a 60,000 mile tire.
Mine were gone at 28,000 so I took them into a michelin dealer and they were pro-rated 28/60 and I got that amount off the price of new michelin tires.
That for me was the best deal. Basically paid half price for new tires.
Oh course any pro rated deal, you end up paying the tire disposal fee, mount and balance, sales tax etc. So more like 2/3rds the cost of new.
I figured if Michelin would give half off each time I buy tires, I'd put the michelins back on.
Michelin and Cooper are about the only two tire companies that offer a Tread Life warranty for the "E" rated 20" tires. If you wear out Toyo or Nittos or most other brands, there is NO treadlife warranty and no Pro-rated cost.
You do need to wear the tire down to the wear bars in the tread. About 3/32nds to get the pro-rated.
I personally never had issues with a particular brand, but I stay away from the "top of the line" like BFG's and Michelin's since I believe them to be overpriced and unnecessary considering my driving conditions. Also, their quality has changed over the years (acc. to threads I've uncovered on various forums). Personally, I'd go with Cooper or Hankook. Every forum has plenty of tire threads, one can even go to Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels to get suggestions/comments for your vehicle, or visit a tire manufacturer's website directly.
I'm fairly certain that by the end of the year I'm going to try Nitto Trail Grapplers. I do a fair amount of off road driving and they perform almost as well as the Terra Grapplers in rain. Plus I'm of the humble opinion that a truck needs truck tires. They should serve me well fishing off the beach in NC.

I had the trail grapplers on my F150 and even aired down they liked to dig trenches at OBX.....the terras that I have on the F250 now even with out airing them down where fantastic on the sand last spring. Don't forget your current reg and $75 if you plan to drive on the beach at OBX......damn Feds!
I just replaced my tires back in May with 20" Cooper Discoverer AT3's and so far I am satisfied with the ride, will find out this winter how they work in snow. They have a 55,000 mile warranty and price was about $295 each.

Volusia county FL (Daytona) is only $5 a day or $35 for a year to drive on the beach. It's highly regulated though, no playing around. And yes, the trail grappler m/t will take you anywhere you want to go, great tire!
I changed the tires out on my new 11 f250 right away. I changed the OEM(245/75/17) tires out only about 8 or 9 hundred miles on them. I put on the Nitto terra grapplers(285/75/17). I have 27k on the truck now, i will probably need to replace them after this winter. my house sits at the top of a steep gravel hill with a sharp left turn half way up and in the winter it can be kind of a challenge, thats why i changed from OEM. but they are not holding up like i thought they would.if i can find a good deal i may buy them again but more than likely i will go with another brand. just food for thought.

I had the same problem with the Nittos on a pervious Dodge..... the weight of the diesel motor must have something to do with it. They did not wear well at all. I had BFG TA/KMs on the Dodge and they lasted a long time (put 50K on the Dodge and they looked great when I traded them in. I just put Coopers Discoverer AT/3 on the 2011 F250 and they seem fine so far. The OEM crap BFG Rugged Trails only lasted 27,000 miles with regular rotation and balance.

What i dont understand with the Nittos is some people have taken them to 40k and some people have hardley gotten 30 like myself. I also rotated every oil change. I actully was thinking about after i wrote the first post i sent Nitto an email complaining about it. Not expecting anything to come of it but it made me feel better. there has been so much inconsistansy out of them.
I think the BFG is what may go with next time.
Anyone have any experience with the Interco M-16s? Talked to a couple of guys and they say they are a Great tire. Not as loud as the Nittos or the Toyos.
