I have a '96 350 power stroke. It has started shutting off and coming back on while going down the road. Would like to get it diagnosed before I'm left stranded. Any suggestions?
On the front cover down kinda on the passenger side of the harmonic balancer. You can get it from underneath and takes only one wrench to change. A 10mm I think.
I think they have you on the right track with the CPS. You probably need to replace it. Get one from Ford or an International dealer, but don't even bother with one from Autozone, Advance, Oriley's etc. They're junk.

X2 on that. However, i will say that the CPS i got from Oreillys, made by Borg Warner, has been doing fine for over a year. Comes with a lifetime warranty, so if she ever goes bad i get a new one for free. Its a roll of the dice in my opinion. Go with Ford to be safe.

3+ years now with the parts store CPS. not even a hiccup. This is with a stock PCM and IDM though. your mileage may vary if youve modded yours I think.
