Rear End

Hello all;

Will a 99 ford f250 rear end 9' with disc brakes fit in the 1992 F250?

Mine,
C5 4.10. 6250 FORD LIMITED SLIP Full Floating

Thanks in advance.

I think the spring perches are a different width, so I doubt it would be a direct bolt in.

The other issue is that the wheel bolt pattern is different, so you would have to use wheels from a 99+ truck on the rear, while keeping the older wheels on the front.

If you want disc brakes, you might look for an axle from a newer E-350 van. Those will have disc brakes and have the same bolt pattern as you have now.

The guy that is selling [very good price] tells me 88 to 2006 are all the same... I know that when looking up parts there is a change newer are called super duty? I am a computer guy not a car guy and 300 miles is a log way to drive to not get the rear end....

Thanks for the responce

The super duty/f250 rear ends are 10.5"

9" rears came in older vans, small trucks, and some cars I believe.

I can't comment on the bolt pattern. It looks and "feels" the same as the older f250's but like mentioned I have also seen people mention the super duties have a metric pattern now. I have a stack of f250 wheels out back, next time I have a wheel off the X I should check the older wheels to see how far off they are and what the real story is.

Up to 1997, F-250 and 350 used a 8x6.5" bolt pattern, 1999 and up have 8x170mm bolt pattern. They are not interchangeable.

Those bolt patterns are close, but definitely NOT close enough to be compatible!

Also, if your existing truck has drum brakes, you would have to re-engineer the hydraulics for the brakes as well. Disks need a LOT more pressure than drums, so the existing proportioning valve needs to be replaced with one for a disk. And since there would be no ABS, getting the proper balance is not a simple task....
