I know numbers dummy is an expert, I would like someone to break down the vin number for my 66 f100. I would like to know exactly how it came from the factory.(I am pretty sure it did not come with the recaro seats it has now.)
f10an844935
thanks
Scott
A = 240 1V I-6 (does not decode to the Gross HP & RPM as there are too many variables. The Cert net HP & RPM are listed on the Warranty Plate).
N = Norfolk VA Assembly Plant.
844935 = 1966, assembled April 1966.
The Warranty Plate is located on the left door face below the latch.
The first FoMoCo vehicle to come with Recaro seats: 1984 Lincoln Continental Mark VII LSC

Do you think both tags will still be in situ after 46 years have passed by? By now, many are missing.
Since the OP hasn't posted the Warranty Plate info yet...no one knows what rear axle and type of trans his truck has, so:
If a 9" rear axle, the axle ID tag is under one of the bolts that retains the carrier to the housing at circa 5 o'clock.
If a Dana rear axle, tag is located under one of the bolts that retains the inspection cover to the housing.
If a C4 A/T, the trans ID tag is bolted to the round servo cover on the left (drivers) side of the case.
If a 3 M/T or 3 M/T O/D, or Warner T-18 4 speed, the trans ID tag is bolted to the right (passenger) side of the case adjacent to the extension housing.
If a New Process 435 4 speed, the tag is located under (1) of the (6) bolts that retains the PTO cover to the case, right (passenger) side-front.
Thanks for the info on trannys and diffs. I will print it out and put it in my manual. I have a 2011 Expedition, two 66s, one 70 4x4 and a 62 4x4 so this info will come in handy.
Sorry about excluding the door tag info. I have actually been offered a few hundred bucks for the door tag(s) and title but am keeping the truck.
here are the numbers as follows:
115 HM F100 481 c 09 05000 129 4000 22
all these numbers are below the vin on the tag, It says what some of them mean such as 481 as the color. I do not know the color but I am guessing it is a cream type color.
Thanks for all the info guys.

I would shy away from selling the door tags as the DMV will go off of the number stamped into the frame. The person will have problems with a VIN verification later on.
115 =Wheel base
HM = Sahara Beige/Winbledon White
F100 = F100 2wd 1/2 ton

c = 61 would be a 3speed 3.03 sycromesh, by I have a note showing a 4 speed , so I'll let the number dummy provide this one.

22 =Ordered by the Charlotte, North Carolina District sales Office, most likely sold of a dealers lot.
Thanks for the info, a charlotte vehicle i guess it has been here in north carolina longer than I have. still has an nc title. One guy said the dmv does not inspect the vehicle they just issue a title and then any verification is done with the door tags. (they could only point to a stolen vehicle as a reason to check the vehicle tags.) this is in North Carolina, other states may do it different. I appreciate the input.

Yeah, I am not selling the title or tags, going to keep the truck, I would only sell the whole thing... It has a salvage title but I hope to use the truck to haul stuff and bs around a little.
Maybe trade it for something with power steering and brakes when i get too old and weak to drive manual.
